JMC 2033 or Writing for Mass Media is the class that follows JMC 1013 or Intro to Mass Media. The objective of Writing for Mass Media is to develop student’s writing skills and to make him or her a better writer in the area of mass media that he or she wishes to pursue.

In this class, students will use words to express the professional goals no matter which field of journalism that they are in. A main focus of this class is how to use student’s words correctly and effectively to get the piece of communication that he or she needs to the audience. The instructor will teach the students to use words to fit an audience whether it is informing someone about an event, persuading someone to buy something or do something, or even writing a news story. Words also need to fit with the objectives of the media outlet whether it is in a newspaper, Web site, or other types of agencies or public relations firms.

The students will accomplish specific goals in their writing during this class. The class and instructor will help them improve their writing, understand the conventions of writing for the media, and will help them develop their professional skills.

Writing sometimes does not come naturally to everyone, but everyone is capable of learning the techniques and skills that are needed in good writing. In this class students should become proficient in gathering and organizing information into what they want to say.
