Students interested in completing a degree from the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication are required to take JMC 2033. Prior to enrolling in JMC 2033-Writing for Mass Media, students must complete JMC 1013- Introduction to Mass Media.
The students enrolled in this course strive to achieve highly developed professional skills, improved media literacy, defined interests and improved writing skills. Along with a lecture-based class, JMC requires a co-requisite lab. With these two courses, taken simultaneously, students will begin to fully understand how all aspects of the mass media work, and how to use their language skills to convey messages to that media effectively.
Although the media world is ever-changing, students going into the field of journalism and mass communications require similar skills to be effective in what they do. Whether the goal is to inform, persuade, or entertain, students must gain an understanding of the varying structures of media.
Professors of JMC 2033 will teach journalism students the overall writing process, including editing, revision and final drafts. Over the course of the semester, students will learn the skills they need to further a career in Journalism and Mass Communication.
