American Women in Radio & Television
American Women in Radio & Television allows any woman working in the media industry to join its efforts to “make equal employment opportunity rules for women in communications effective and efficient.”
AWRT’s professional values consist of education and professional development workshops for its members, industry updates, job information services and collaboration and networking opportunities. Their news values consist of allowing jobs and internships to be posted on their website for the public to view, and they will take issues to Congress. The issues are usually about the rights of women in the media field, etc. The website provides press releases about the issues they have taken to Capitol Hill.
What I enjoy most about the site is that I can see this is an organization in which the women are confident. Their tone is powerful and helpful. They speak about honoring members Diane Sawyer, Judy McGrath, Chairwoman and CEO of MTV Network’s and Rachael Ray to name a few. They also provide an awards ceremony, The Gracie’s, which honors the women in media.
Not only does the AWRT have chapters for women in the media field, but there are chapters for students as well. I think this is providing great resources for students who want to become involved and start learning what is going on in their field of study.
