HPV Vaccines at OU

Gardasil, the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine, is available for students through OU Health Services.

RN Maggie Pool, who works for OU Health Services, said females ages nine to 26 should be vaccinated even if they're already sexually active. “Gardasil is given over a period of six months with a total of three shots. Each shot is $148 and can be charged to students’ bursar accounts,” Pool said.

Pool said the HPV virus is often acquired during the late teens and 20s, when women typically become sexually active, and the infection might lead to cervical cancer. The vaccine helps protect against the four types of HPV that cause the majority of cervical cancer and genital warts.
