Journalistic Challenges

The biggest challenge I face writing journalistically is memorizing the stylebook rules. All the abbreviation rules are difficult to remember because of the different circumstances that call for abbreviations or full words. Journalistic writing and academic writing differ in this way because academic writers rarely abbreviate in papers.

The structure for journalistic writing is also difficult because the paragraphs and sentences are shorter than those found in academic papers. I struggle with brevity because I believe that all the information I find while researching is important. With practice these skills will come easier to me.
