Grammar, punctuation & spelling challenges

I remember learning phonics in the first grade, and shortly after, learning how to correctly write a sentence. Ever since then, I have been hammered with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. In middle school, my English teacher would not even accept assignments until they had been rid of all style errors. Although correct grammar, punctuation and spelling have been at the forefront of all my English classes during my schooling career, they have not been consistent. Some teachers were not concerned with certain style rules, while others expected perfection. With this inconsistency, many style rules were over looked, and therefore, I never grasped them.
