NABJ

The National Association of Black Journalist website focuses a lot on diversity in terms of professional and news values. One major aspect of professional values is the first amendment, which states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” Not too long ago African-Americans could not express their opinions due to discrimination, NABJ now serves as a way to voice opinions and views that African-Americans once could not have, they are fully using their first amendment rights.

The NABJ web site has links for African-American students. Often people forget about the younger generations but NABJ not only has scholarships but mentoring, projects, and internships for journalist student of all ages. NABJ also has a link to a Media Institute, which “offers professional development, technical training, historical documentation, educational programs, conferences, workshops, entrepreneurial guidance as well as Web seminars. Consisting of quality content and resources for journalists of color.” This allows end list amounts of resources, information and connections, NABJ truly wants to help African-American journalist succeed.

The voice of the NABJ wed site seems to be a happy one. Unlike the normal news NABJ reports the good things that African-American communities are doing as a way to set good examples for younger generations. They do this though pictures, award winners, and even announcing a new president.
