Journalistic vs. Academic Styles of Writing

Journalistic writing is short and to the point, while academic is longer and more drawn out. From the time I started elementary school up until my second year of college I wrote academically, meaning research papers, long paragraphs and lengthy writings. Now, I am pretty much being thrown into journalistic writing, which is the complete opposite of academic writing. I believe this is the greatest difficulty I face. I have never written in a journalistic style, so learning the concepts is a challenge because my mind is stuck the academic way of writing and this style is comfortable to me.
