language sensitivity

I face several challenges with language sensitivity. I have always heard “politically correct” used for sensitive labels. I recently learned that this term is unnecessary and offensive. Categorizing respectful terms is disrespectful to the people who use these labels because they don’t want to be in a different category than the majority.

I understand derogatory words are offensive, but I don’t think “politically correct” belittles anyone. I think our culture takes sensitivity too far. By singling out a community with its own term perpetuates the segregation of cultures. Treating everyone equally is the only way to feel comfortable with other cultures.
