In lab #9 – sensitivity blog
When writing about diverse groups of people, cultures or communities, one must be aware of wording and language that may be offensive to a certain person. Some people may even be offended if a writer chooses the wrong word or sequence in his/her story. Although news shouldn’t be sugarcoated, you should be sensitive to the reality that cultures and people are not all the same. However, this is challenging because news is news, news is fact, and if you change the facts or the story line to achieve kindliness, then your story might be tainted with bias opinions. People want the news to be real, and if you alter reality of a story, you alter people’s awareness of the world, and that is never a good idea.
