The main challenge I face using sensitivity for those of different cultures is fear of offending them. I grew up in a community surrounded by people of the same race and background. I was not introduced to diversity until I came to college.

As a journalist, I feel that my lack of knowledge about other cultures may be one of my weaknesses. I want to respect the people and cultures I write about; therefore, my fear is not being “politically correct.” I believe I will overcome this fear by spending more time outside my comfort zone, learning about people of different cultures and ethnicities.
